Oklahoma Gas and Electric Recognized with Chief Learning Officer Award

October 14, 2011
Pete Hammett Named Gold Vanguard Award Winner-

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

Korn/Ferry International (NYSE: KFY), a premier global provider of talent management solutions, congratulates our client Pete Hammett of Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OGE) for winning the prestigious Chief Learning Officer magazine Learning In Practice, Gold Vanguard award. The Vanguard award is given to best-in-class human capital learning and development executives who have either launched a new enterprise learning function or redesigned existing workforce development initiatives in the past year.

OGE was honored for their work in developing and deploying their Coaching for Effectiveness and their Foundations of Leadership programs. These learning initiatives help leaders develop the critical skills required to innovate and succeed in the rapidly changing energy and utility industry.

"The Learning In Practice awards were established to recognize transformational and visionary leaders in learning and development," said Norm Kamikow, president and editor in chief of Chief Learning Officer magazine. "More than 250 executives get nominated by their peers in more than 20 categories. The winners are the industry leaders who truly champion innovation and transform it into value for their organizations."

OGE's approach to innovative leadership development stems from an industry-driven need to foster next-generation leadership in a business where up to 40 percent of current leaders are expected to retire in the next few years. Faced also with rapidly changing regulatory and infrastructure requirements, OGE is taking a proactive approach toward ensuring a strong pipeline of future leaders. Under Mr. Hammett's direction, OGE created and is implementing two dynamic programs that engage high-potential leaders in an intensive two-year leadership development process. The programs include "laboratory" learning events where OGE leaders practice new leadership skills in job-specific situations.

OGE Chairman and CEO, Pete Delaney, noted, "The right leadership has a lot to do with realizing our vision to be a leader in developing members. This program is another investment that should benefit all of our members." Treating employees as "members" reflects OGE's unique approach to talent, and the Vanguard award programs are accelerating OGE's goal of becoming the premier employer in the industry.

Korn/Ferry Leadership and Talent Consulting partnered with Mr. Hammett and key company executives in developing both the Coaching for Effectiveness and the Foundations of Leadership offerings. These learning initiatives were designed to incorporate OGE's core values and vision for the future of the firm, and focus on preparing emerging leaders to perform well on the job in their roles as leaders of people as well as managers of a utility service. In designing the program, Korn/Ferry leveraged OGE's approach to talent and company culture and stressed the importance of learning transfer to participants' daily leadership challenges and to OGE's business strategy.

The awards were announced at a special ceremony on Thursday, October 13, during the Fall 2011 CLO Symposium in Laguna Niguel, California, which attracted a sold out crowd of 400 top corporate learning and development executives from around the world.
